Jubilee Chipboard Book

Class in Tulsa, July 23, 1:00pm
I still have 1 place available, contact me for more information.

I just love the summery, country feel of the Close to My Heart Jubilee paper.
It just screams fun family memories.
I used the Close to My Heart Chipboard book with the magnetic clasp for this project.
However, I popped out the magnet and made a Jute tie closure and added bigger rings
for the book.

Cover for Jubilee Chipboard Book

I added a small tag with a jute tie
Ribbon in chipboard tag is hug snug seam binding that
was sprayed with water and crunched up to dry.

Pennets are part of complements I added jute to tie together

Little mason jar was emphemera I had on hand....

Added some lace around the plenty of love label

MINI file folders and washi tape used to make little booklet
for journaling and pictures.

BEE Happy!

OK, so just what is my deal with the Bees?
My really only memorable encounter with the lovely winged creatures was to get a giant sting right on the forehead.  You would think that would have been enough to give me a just a healthy respect and keep my distance.

However, my fascination grew.  They are such enterprising little things.  They all have a reason for being.  They all work in concert with each other.  They create!  They'd give it up for their queen!

Bees also have been symbolic of the Christian Faith. In fact swarms of bees wrap the pillars of the Altar of St Peters Basilica in Rome.

The bee has been admired for its noble traits by many cultures and therefore has a variety of symbolic meanings. It can be used to represent community, diligence and industry, purity, immortality and and resurrection. Its sting may represent judgment. The honey it produces may represent sweetness of character or heavenly riches.

Beehive
The beehive is a relatively modern symbol representing the church. Many bees, each assigned a different task, working together for the building up of the hive reminded artists of the Body of Christ, which is built up (edified) by many believers with differing spiritual gifts. Nine bees traditionally represent the nine fruit of the Spirit. The beehive may also be used as an emblem of St. Bernard of Clairveaux, and of St. Ambrose, who is the partron saint of beekeepers.Gal. 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (NIV)
I
Catholocism .org quotes.,  "The bee is a symbol of Our Lady. Because of its good working habits, the small honeybee is a well-known symbol for work, good order, and diligence. Less commonly known is that the bee is a representation of virginity. The worker bees have no part in the reproduction of its species, except for that of feeding the baby bees. The responsibilities of “bee parenting” are left to the queen bee and the drones. Since virginity is a virtue we find exemplified to its highest capacity in Our Lady, the bee quite naturally becomes one of Her symbols.!"

I guess for myself, I had always been so industrious that I felt like a worker bee.  The hive how ever does takes care of its own if they can't work any more.  They still have a place and are cared for.
That thought makes me happy.  Here are some of my mixed media pieces on bees...

Since this is my first post, let me tell you a little about my path.  I'm a wife, mom, and grandma.  I've been married 34 years to my best friend and high school sweetheart, Tim.  My kids are grown. My son, James, is a football coach in Houston and my daughter, Christa, is a nurse in Tulsa.  My granddaughter Chloe is my joy!

Five years ago, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Wegener's Granulomatosis.  This disease nearly got me in 2010.  My husband Tim got on the internet and found an experimental treatment that I got approved for and I was spared.  This is important, because it is what lead me to Paper Art.  I am definitely not as active as I used to be.  In fact, I'm still down more than up, but this creative outlet has given me hope and joy.  It has become my beauty from ashes and a way that I can share, create, and give back in my own way and time.

Through a friend at my church, I met a lovely woman, Dalene Wells, who is a Close To My Heart Demonstrator.   Through Dalene, I began to learn some stamping skills.  I moved to Edmond, Ok in 2010 and my health battle double downed.  However, God blessed me with doctors there that were doing the treatment Tim found.  I began to get a little better and another church friend, lead me to My Hearts Fancy in OKC.  I began weekly art classes taught by Lisa Bruno, a lovely and creative woman.  These classes began to add beauty and friendship back to my life.  My artwork progressed and I was published in Stampers Sampler 2013 Spring Edition.

I went to Michael's Craft Store to have my artwork and article framed.  They hired me as a Paper Arts instructor and I began to meet other women who shared my interest in paper art.  I decided for my health reasons that I needed more control over my schedule so I joined Dalene as a Close to My Heart Demonstrator.  I can create on my own schedule and share my talent with others.

I am intending in this blog to share my art and my journey down this path.
